Cord System

Much like other martial arts, capoeira uses a grading system that is based on colors. A colored cord/belt (called a cordão) is worn around the waist to denote rank. Systems differ between schools, but the use of cordãos remains constant. Our school, Associação de Capoeira Corpo e Movimento, follows the system established by the Confederação Brasileira de Capoeira (Brazilian Capoeira Federation). The colored cords are based on the colors of the Brazilian flag, working their way inward from the outside. Our grading system is as follows:
